Exclusive clip: Lion TV’s “Menendez Brothers” doc revisits ’90s court case
Investigation Discovery’s ‘Killer 90s Week’ kicked off Sunday (August 7) with the two- hour documentary special, Menendez Brothers: Misjudged?, which refocuses on one of the most sensational crimes of the decade through a social media spotlight.
The 1996 case involving Lyle and Erik Menendez, the two Beverly Hills brothers convicted of killing their wealthy parents, has gotten another life as a new generation is discussing the crime via TikTok. Through the lens of TikTok- the impact of ongoing abuse suffered at the hands of their parents, the details surrounding the court proceedings, and other pertinent details of the case are getting a fresh analysis.
When Allison Corn and Stan Hsue, co-presidents of Lion Television U.S. (the company which produced this special), were interviewed by RealScreen, they said that choosing to revisit the case was an easy decision:
“On the surface, there are two attractive brothers from Beverly Hills who brutally killed their parents and tried to get away with it,” Corn and Hsue told Realscreen. “But beyond the headlines, punchlines and unbelievable twists and turns, there is depth, complexity and pathos to the story that still grips our attention three decades later. There are so many layers to this story; I have no doubt we will be discussing it for many years to come.”
